Fooly Cooly ( Furi Kuri) is one of the most memorable Anime’s of my childhood. Originally airing on American Television back in 2003. Fast forward, 14 years later and the mere thought still brings a smile to my face. From Naota cynical outlook to Haruko’s Vespa and everything in between, most of all Lord Canti. So when Cartoon Network announced a possible remake, I was in shock but more over confused. In all seriousness, FLCL has everything packed into six episodes. What more could they possibly do? My answer came in the form of a trailer.
Before I dive into this, I watched the trailer multiple times. So now all I have is questions. Where is Naota? and where is Lord Canti? More importantly, how much time has passed since the original? And why did Haruko come back on earth? Is she still chasing the Pirate King Atomsk or is it another reason entirely. I can’t speak for everyone but to me it low key felt like she was in love with homie. But I digress.
According to media sources (links posted below), season two and season three will both have different stories. The new season also focuses on a female high school student by the named Hidomi, who seems to have a similar outlook as Naota from season one. When Haruko Haruhara appears in her hometown, Medical Mechanica soon follows and her life as she knows it is flipped upside down.
And while this feels familiar, in my the back of my mind, I’m still skeptical. It’s been 17 years, aside from the fact that the Anime industry has changed so much since then. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to follow-up with a good sequel? Add on the time gap, to put it lightly, this turning out well is highly unlikely.
But even so, I am still curious. There nothing quite like playing on nostalgia to reel in the masses. If I’m being honest, the animation looks really good. It has this modern look with a 90’s esque color palate. In essence, it’s sort of like new and old coming together. That in itself warrants my attention.
FLCL Season 2 is slated to drop sometime Early 2018.
I’ll post the trailer and some questions below. Please feel free to share your thoughts.
- Are you a fan of FLCL? What did you think of the trailer?
- Are you excited for the new seasons? Why or why not?
Thank you for dropping by.
