3 Anime Character Challenge (Tag)

GC

The three character tag challenge has been floating around the internet for a while now. And as usual, I am late to the party but don’t fret my friends. In the words of Korean American singer Jay Park, I got this.  All jokes aside, I was inspired to take a crack at it after reading Aria Cross’ own attempt. That was back in June, and I am just now getting around to it.

Challenge:  Pick three anime characters that remind you of yourself and tag people to participate.  For the sake of the post, I will elaborate on why these characters are reflective of my personality.

Yusuke Urameshi

First up, teenage delinquent Yusuke Urameshi of YuYu Hakusho. Aside from the fact that he stars in my favorite anime of all time I had always felt particularly drawn to Yusuke. Although Kurama was my favorite character, I could never quite shake the feeling that I fancied Yusuke because he was somewhat like me. You’re probably wondering in what way.

Well to be completely honest, during my years as a student I was uninterested in anything school-related. Mid-semester exams coming up? Fuck it. Got a paper to turn in? Fuck it. Basically, if it didn’t involve me having a good time then I wasn’t interested. It’s sad to say but I had lacked ambition and drive. It was the same with Yusuke. The things that managed to hold my attention were often that which I had a knack for; things that I didn’t really have to put a lot of hard work into. I didn’t know what it meant to put your heart and soul into something and maybe I didn’t want to know.

The funny thing was that after Yusuke went under Genkai’s tutelage I started to believe that her words of wisdom were really meant to enlighten me. I was able to relate and understand her teachings within the context of my own life. It was then that I began my journey, much like Yusuke, towards my goals. Even today, when I’m feeling down or particularly unproductive, I still put on some YuYu Hakusho clips for perspective, because lack of passion is still something I struggle with.

Haruhi Fujioka

The second character who’s most like me is probably Haruhi Fujioka.  Much like her, I don’t judge.  I accept people as they are.  At times, that’s not an easy thing to do.  I am also the type of person who’s always there for people I care about, even when I don’t want to be bothered.  If you look out for me, I’m going to look out for you. If you show me love, I’ll do so in return. Because of this, I’m easily tricked or guilt tripped into doing things for those around me.  I suppose it’s in the same way they use food and her debt to manipulate the Natural Host.

I couldn’t decide on a character for my third choice. I’ve be sitting on it since I first decided to take on this challenge. After three months of over thinking and still coming up a blank, I decided to pick a character from my favorite manga, Hikaru Takabayashi from Tenshi Ja Nai.
We’re similar in the way we perceive life and act on our impulses or lack thereof.  I know what it feels like to want to go through the motions of the day with minimal problems. I also know what it’s like to want to blend in with the crowd and go unnoticed but no matter how hard you try, you still stand out. Often times it’s after a bunch of unforeseeable events has happened that I feel I’ve found my lane, much like Hikaru Takabayashi. We’ve both have life changing experiences and ended up in place we’ve never dreamt of.
Yusuke Urameshi, Haruhi Fujioka, Hikaru Takabayashi and I all share similar traits, experiences, and outlooks on life because of this we were able to grow together. For that reason, I’ve chosen them for this challenge.
Before I go, who are your top three picks in the Anime Character Challenge?

Interesting…I might as well give this a try! Haven’t thought so much about mirroring myself to specific anime characters, but this should be a good opportunity to think about it. Nice post!

Very interesting choices! Kurama was also my favourite character from Yu Yu Hakusho when I watched it as a kid. Anyway, thanks for the shout-out! Cheers!
