This past weekend we were able to do press coverage for J1-Con in Atlantic City, NJ. The con was held at the Showboat Hotel which had more than enough space, this was my first time at the Showboat, J1-Con and I was blown away at how big this hotel was and seeing the usage of the venue space. The Bourbon Room was nothing but amazing it blew my mind learning about the history involving past performances as well as the J1-Con events held there.
The show floor was filled with vendors and cosplayers buzzing around between the panel rooms and show floor. The gaming area was filled with nostalgia. Lizzo and I got to play a few games on systems we haven’t touched in years, Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Gamecube, and Dreamcast. I didn’t think I see most of these systems again ever but to actually get back on the systems that turned me into a gamer felt so good that I might end up collecting a few of my favorite systems and games.
The panels and main events weren’t as full as I would hope they would be but everyone was in good spirits even though the rooms weren’t packed and that’s what really counts. Each panel or event I went to felt so intimate with such a small audience, we got to interact with the guest and have full on conversations which you normally wouldn’t if the panels were full.
Jason made a announcement during the Cosplay Contest and it was a big one. J1-Studios will be having 2 cons in 2019. One will be held in Philadelphia or Atlantic City depending on which venue is chosen and the second will be held in Jamaica. Yes! you read that correctly, Jamaica will have its first con in 2019 and J1-Con will be the first local con to ever go international. Jason did mention that packages will be in the works for anyone willing to go to the J1-Con in Jamaica and have a Con/Vacation experience. There’s only one thing to do, Get your passports ready and take the chance to go on vacation.
The Bourbon room is one of my favorite areas of the con because of all the history and legends that have graced the stage. While we were waiting for the Music Fest to start I took some photos of the wall of performers as well, all legendary people grace these walls. It was so amazing to be there in person and see it, I would definitely recommend going to any event held in The Showboat’s Bourbon Room. Thanks to J1-Con for introducing me to this venue otherwise I probably would have never known about it.
