FullMetal Alchemist Panel Special Event at Anime NYC 2018

I was able to get into the FullMetal Alchemist Special Event Panel at Anime NYC  and relive some of my favorite moments from Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood and Full Metal Alchemist. The panel featured special guest Vic Mignogna, the voice of Edward Elric in both English versions. It was an interesting panel to sit in. Members of the audience gave their opinion on survey questions that were asked to attendee’s of convention.  A lot of the questions asked were very interesting and to see other people’s response’s was interesting as well. One of the questions that was first asked was to choose your favorite brother and many prefer Team Edward. Vic chose Team Edward and so did many others who voted. It was a very close match. If I had to choose a team it would be Team Alphonse. I prefer Alphonse because of his loyalty to his brother and his kindness towards others. I always wanted a brother like Alphonse instead my brother is more like Edward. I loved Alphonse as a character and the fact that he was always there to help. Alphonse’s becomes MORE like “the bigger brother” to Edward preventing him from making rash decisions, and becoming more of conscience that Edward relies on throughout the series. The next question surveyed was “Which 7 Deadly Sins Do You Relate to? “People at the convention’s number one answer was Greed.  In second place it was Envy and, third place was Sloth. I was surprised that Greed was first place. The character I related to the most was Wrath. Wrath is always angry which I can relate with. I easily get frustrated most of the time. When I do not see things going my way I get angry. I am surprised this was not first place or in the top three selection. Everybody at some point in their life gets angry, irritated, or have some vexation.

The third question surveyed was “Would you become a State Alchemist?” According to the survey, many people chose to be a State Alchemist. I think being a State Alchemist is worth it. Who would not want to protect citizens and carry a cool looking pocket watch? I kind of wouldn’t want to go through the exam process because I hate tests.  But I would also like to be a state alchemist. I think with the ability of being a State Alchemist I would be able to save many people’s lives.

The last question asked, which I found the most interesting was “What would you do If you had a Philosopher Stone?” Many people surveyed said they’d help other people, give money to the poor, cure all Illness and then destroy it . Vic stated that everyone would get along with each other.  If I had the Philosopher Stone, I would end all suffering. There would be no suffering for anyone and then destroy the stone. I would only do this if I received a philosopher stone, I would not create one due to all the sacrifices that would have to be made in order to create one.

This was an interesting panel one that I would love to go to again. I enjoyed meeting the actor who did the voice of Edward Elric.  I liked when he recited the last line of the series when Edward said ” there is no such thing as a painless lesson, they just exist, sacrifices are necessary; you can’t gain anything without losing something first, although if you can endure the pain, and walk away from it,you’ll find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah a heart made of full metal.”

The best quote of the series. I hope to go to more panels next year at Anime NYC where you can recap about an entire series. I really enjoyed this panel and hope that there will be more panels similar to this when I go to Anime NYC.
