While I sat in the Dante Buford panel, I met Matthew Bordenave who is a Storyboard artist and up next was his panel. He was very funny and had a great stage presence. I really got to enjoy this panel and had a lot of fun. I was interested in learning about storyboarding because it is part of what makes an animation, this is one of the many jobs that brings an animation to life. With everyone’s hard work, everything comes together into the animation we see. I originally sat in this panel because I was curious about what the panel would be about, I was able to learn a lot about the behind-the-scenes in developing an animation. Continue reading →
At J1-Con I was able to meet Dante Buford a Director and an Animator. I never understood the behind the scenes of creating an animation and all the work that goes into creating animation. There are so many people that work together in creating an animation. There are storyboard artists, animators, artists, voice-over actors, and many other different positions. With all the work from everyone, everything comes together it is visualized into the animation we see. I sat in the panel because I was curious about what the panel was about, I was able to learn a lot about the behind-the-scenes in developing an animation.
I attended the How to be a Villain 101 Panel at J1-Con because the title alone grabbed my interest. I wanted to understand the underline of what it took to be a villain, step by step and its process. Being a villain is not easy, there are many things you must do to become a villain and I learned about this in the panel; like having a good name, henchman, entrance music, entering a room, a catchphrase, and finally grabbing the attention of your audience. Every villain is unique in their own way.
I can not wait to attend Steve Conte concert at J1-Con. Steve Conte is an American musician, music producer, guitarist, songwriter, and the lead singer of his own band: Steve Conte NYC. He has done many different projects throughout his career, I love hearing his raspy voice it is very soothing to listen to. His voice is a mix of Billy Joel and David Bowie to me. Most of his music is old school rock. Steve Conte has worked together with different composers and lyricists on various anime soundtracks.
This year I am looking forward to being able to see Erica Mendez. She is an AmericanVoice Actress and has done voice-overs for many different anime characters. One role she did was the voice of Gon Freecss in the English version of Hunter x Hunter. Gon was the main character of the anime series which is a big role, she has voiced many other anime characters even some of my favorite characters.
This year I went into a panel that discussed the different Japanese styles that we can also see in the anime shows that we watch or, what people actually wear in Japan. It was reiterated that these styles are not to be confused with cosplay. The panel was moderated by Creep-P. It was a very interesting and educational panel. Many people confuse some of the styles with cosplay. There are several different style trends in Japan such as Dekora, Gyaru, Shironuri, Mori, Ishokuada, Visual Kei, Lolita, Manhera, and many more. Each style has its own uniqueness. The styles were created to break the social norm and allow people to be more free to express themselves.
This year at Liberty City Anime Convention (LCAC) everyone discovered that this was the last year and final performance of the band 2une. This was my first time listening to the band because in the previous years I was never able to make it in time to see the band perform. 2une has been performing together for three years at LCAC and had many great performances. This year for their final show 2une’s Sneko and Uno had a combined performance together with Ari.Ki (Ari and Ki). Ari.Ki are twin dancers that perform their own choreography, I really enjoyed listening to the band and watching the dance performances. Continue reading →
I finally got the opportunity to see Digimon Tri, and sadly I felt a little cheated. I was excited from the title alone knowing they were going to bring back the original cast from the preview I saw, and I developed high expectations for the show. Digimon is one of my favorite television shows growing up and I thought that it was going to be action packed and all the DigiDestines would be their together from both season 1 to 2. I loved Digimon growing up and was surprised to see them all look more mature. It was interesting seeing the characters again with their Digimon and seeing the characters all grown up. I was disappointed a little in the story-line but, it was nice to see the original DigiDestines. I loved to see the original Digimon characters like Augmon, Patamon, Gatomon, and the others. I was so shocked by the intensity of the story-line of the three part movie series and not completely satisfied with the story either hoping for more. Continue reading →

This year I was able to enjoy the AMV (Anime Music Video) contest. An AMV is a fan-made music video incorporating clips of one or more animated shows or movies. I started watching AMV’s on Youtube and the process is very tedious and time consuming cutting up the video clips, and editing it to make the video fit with the song. What I love most is how when you’re watching a AMV, it is like getting a preview of the anime which I think is better then watching a trailer because, it gives, more of an inside on what to look forward to in the show or movie.
AnimeNEXT has been hosting the AMV contest for years and overtime it has become a tradition. This was my first time attending an AMV contest, and I really enjoyed watching the contestant’s AMV’s and how they correlated it with the given theme’s.
