Ajin: Demi-Human
The new anime series that came out on Netflix is Ajin. If you’re into supernatural and horror with a splash of drama then I recommend this.
Creator: Gamon Sakurai
Status: Ongoing
Summary: Where there is life, there is death… or is there? What would you do if you could never die? The possibilities are endless.
Seventeen years ago, the existence of a special species called Ajin was discovered in Africa. They are said to be immortal beings, with several supernatural abilities, that look just like any other human being. Are these Ajin just random phenomena of nature or were they purposely sent to Earth to destroy it?
Since their first discovery, several other Ajin appearances have been reported worldwide. For the majority of citizens though, these creatures are less reality and more of something you see every once in a while in a textbook or on the news. This is how it was for the young protagonist of the series, Kei. That was until a sudden turn of events changed his life forever…
Ajin is a supernatural anime full of complex ideas about life and death, as well as the dark side of human nature. What does it mean to truly be human?
After seeing this I went looking to see if there is any other seasons online and came across so many negative reviews mainly about the art. I tried seeing what was wrong with the anime and the art is great for 3D animation which i’m not use to since most anime is 2D, the story build up went as it should I couldn’t understand why it got negative comment.
Now Ajin does feel familiar and I can’t figure out why so I tried finding anime I seen before and off the top of my head Elfen Lied, Psycho Pass and Death Note came to mind, there was a little bit of everything in it and I enjoyed it. Now the 3D animation gave it a good realistic look and made me feel more in touch with the characters as the show progressed.
Humans are against Ajins because they can’t die no matter how they are killed they will always regenerate and come back to life. The government track down ajin so they can test military weapons on them and try and see if they can really die. Ajins are subject to cruel punishment so they hide from the world and hope people never find out what they are and in a world of media it’s hard than it looks. Kei (the main protagonist) didn’t even know he was a ajin until he was hit by a truck and started walking right after, he was surrounded by people who recorded the accident and that is how the world knows there is a new ajin.
After the last episode I was on the evil’s side Mr. Sato is one of the villains and I really got attached to him since he showed up he’s mysterious and cool and each time he was on screen I wanted to know more. He’s the OG Ajin he’s been helping other ajin since forever and converting them to evil so he can take over Japan but Kei is the good of the story and he’s now set on stopping Sato so the next season is set to start streaming October 2016 I’m looking forward to seeing what other tricks Satou has because I don’t think the ones he showed us is all he got.
There is manga for this series I’m going to reading because I really want to know what happens.
I’ve read a number of very positive reviews about this. Enough that I went and watched it on Netflix and will be reviewing soon myself. While I quite enjoyed it there are some issues with it. Also, without a second season it doesn’t have a lot of rewatch potential.
