Comparison of Boys over Flowers Dramas
Hana Yori Dango aka Boys over Flowers was first serialized October 1992 ending September 2003. A tv anime, movies and various tv drama’s have surfaced over the years in it’s honor. Yoko Kamio; it’s creator has certainly been blessed in that regard. In this article I will be discussing the acclaimed South Korean version and the Japanese drama released four years prior in 2005. Seeing how I saw the South Korean drama first, I’ll start there.
One of the first things I noticed when watching this drama was how glamorous the main cast was. Even Jan Di who was painted to be the average girl (like weeds) was a shining light. And regardless how hard things got, she never gave up; such an admirable quality.
Something that the Korean Drama excelled in, where the Japanese drama was lacking was the creation of the love triangle between Jan Di (Makino Tsukushi), Junpyo (Tsukasa Domyouji) and Ji hoo (Rui Hanazawa). Ji Hoo was a knight in shinning armor. We watched there relationship grow and chemistry form. And because of this, I understand how difficult it was for Jan Di to reject him. Like she said, he was her soul mate. And Junpyo’s mother was truly sinister.
The Japanese version was mellow. The F4 shows how truly messed up they were. Getting to fights with strangers and bawls with each other. So you can physically see why they are too be feared. In the K-drama, this was somewhat of a universal understand; based on the actions of the student body. Tsukasa, was the wild child they made him out too be. Rui Hanazawa was charming as expected and Makino was equally as likable.
Personally, I think the Japanese version was a better show. But I really enjoyed the Korean version. And, I am currenlly thinking about watching the other versions; aside from the american version Boys Before flower which was really bad.
Anyways, what did you think? Let us know
I haven’t watched the Korean version, although I watched both the Taiwanese (Meteor Shower) and Japanese versions. Like you, I prefer the Japanese version. But I must reserve my final verdict till after I watch the Korean one.
I still haven’t watched the Taiwanese version. I started too but just couldn’t keep my attention long enough. so maybe i’ll try again. lol
thanks for the support always aria.
