Streets of Rage 4 DLC: Mr. X Nightmare
It’s been a little over a year since Streets of Rage 4, dropped and after being blessed with a new DLC Called Mr. X Nightmare, ya girl is ecstatic. So let’s run it back.
Streets of Rage 4 is the fourth installment of Bare Knuckle ベア・ナックル, a beat ’em up franchise originally by SEGA.
Ten years after Mr. X was defeated, his children the Y Twins, rose to power. Blaze Fielding enlists the help of former partners: Axel Stone and Adam Hunter, as well as Adam’s daughter Cherry, and Floyd Iraia who is Dr. Zans’ apprentice, to take down the new syndicate.
I’ve been having a ton of fun with this game. Back slamming and drop-kicking any and everybody I can get my hands on. I COULDN’T be any happier!
I wasn’t really feeling the new art style at first, but it definitely grew on me. The new music is also great, I love how the soundtracks from the older games are available for in-game use. The music from Streets of Rage 2 is really undefeated.
One of the nicest surprises of this game was the robust roster of playable characters. Every playable character from the predecessors is available. I got to play with Skates. My inner child was so happy. Aside from Skates, my go-to character from this installment was his brother, Adam Hunter. And the third member of the Hunter Family, Cherry. Her running attack makes her a force to be reckoned with. Old man Axel, and Blaze are also fun to play with but it’s Adam! This man looks good, fights good, and is just so fun to play with. It’s really as simple as that.
Streets of Rage 4 DLC
With the release of Mr. X Nightmare, we got three more playable characters in Estel, Shiva, and the OG Max, in all his updated glory. Thuggin it out as Estel is cool and I was really happy about this addition. Shiva, I’m not really feeling as much. As for Max, I tend to steer clear of characters with bigger builds because they don’t really suit my playing style. Power is cool but, if you can’t survive long enough to make use of it, what’s the point?
I was convinced that the Y Twins were going to be in the mix, but it turned out that I was wrong. I’m okay with that. What I wanted more than anything was an updated Skates because who doesn’t love Skates? He was my favorite character in the franchise. So I’d love to see that family reunion.
So Devs, if you are reading this, please make it happen. I know I may be asking for too much. But a girl can dream, can’t she? But I digress!
Mr. X Nightmare DLC also included a new game mode. Which can best be described as a survival mode with upgrades and changing abilities. Or maybe there are perks. But either way, I was only expecting a new level slapped on to the existing story. Instead, we got something a lot more interesting. It was a nice touch! Looking forward to diving into it a bit more.
