AnimeNEXT 2018: Diversity in Anime/Manga Panel

As the AnimeNEXT festivities continued on we took a break and sat in this Diversity panel hosted by The Panel Sisters. There were so many panels on diversity at this con this year I was so proud to see everyone get to express themselves and find others that identify with them. Diversity is necessary in all sorts of media and I’m excited to see what creators of new anime and manga will come up with after seeing fans call for more diversity.

Marina Kawano is a singer from Fukuoka, Japan. Her music career began in 2010 after winning the 4th Animax All-Japan Anisong Grand Prix, since then she’s been featured on various Anime opening/ending theme most recently the main theme and ending theme for Square Enix “NieR: Automata” during the show we learned that this was the first time she has performed in the States. AnimeNEXT 2018: Remembering Studio Ghiblis Isao Takahata (1935-2018)

The world lost a great member of Studio Ghibli, Isao Takahata who passed away April 5, 2018, from lung cancer. The panel I went to was hosted by AWO (Anime World Order) where they discussed his life and his greatest achievements. This was an interesting and informative panel, the audience was able to see clips of some of his work like his very long documentary on bridges. The guest speaker explained how his goal was to make people laugh with his skills, I was able to learn some of Takahata’s greatest achievements there was so much to learn about his life that I did not know before.

ALL OFF is a Japanese rock band based in Toyko. Known for their opening and ending themes for anime such as Mob Psycho 100 and Heavy Object. Founded in 2004, by vocalist so-hey and guitarist Yukio. Other members include Kossy (bassist), Gaku (second guitar) and drummer Otsuki who wasn’t in attendance. U of ROOKiEZ is PUNK’D filled in for him. Continue reading

Known for her roles as Mei Tachibana in Say “I love you”, Shiro in No Game No Life, Qumola in The Book of Bantorra and an array of others. Caitlynn is a rising talent that you need to familiarize yourself with.

This is the last day of AnimeNEXT and it’s really been a blast we have so much content to push out that we hope you guys think about coming out to Atlantic City for next year’s AnimeNEXT. This weekend has been a never-ending fun filled con full of cosplayers, events, and games. I’ve said this before there is so much space the elbow room is so amazing and AnimeNEXT always has something going on so finding things to do is an easy part but this year felt like there were so many choices that picking where to go will be the hardest part.
