Another thing I find myself talking about often is my love for cosplay. I am a firm believer, that cosplay is for everyone. We as a community should celebrate that because we have that in common. So in conjunction with the 12 Days of Anime I would like to take the time to share some of my favorites up and coming Cos-Stars.
I attended my first anime convention back in 2007 with my younger cousin and Drey. Since then I’ve attended, two cons per year for the past 11 years up until last year when the number increased quite rapidly in our pursuit to build SDE. Over the years, I watched the convention circuit change in many ways and for those of you who are apprehensive about attending your first con (for whatever reason).
Here is why I think you should attend your first anime convention.
Isn’t the Masquerade everyone’s favorite part of an Anime Convention? It’s where cosplayer’s get to showcase what they poured their hard work and dedication into. Whether be through sewing, knitting, molding and other forms of crafting, I am excited to see it. I also love to see the skits prepared for these events, they are usually- always the funniest way to see some of our favorite characters portrayed.
This year the contestants did not disappoint.
Soulcial Dreamin’ Entertainment attended New York Comic Convention (NYCC) at the Jacob K. Javits Center. This year NYCC collaborated together with Anime Expo to create Anime Fest, a new convention that was located at Pier 94. Continue reading
This will be our first time attending J1-Con and I’m looking forward to quite a few things. One being the Blackfinity Gauntlet which is a podcasting summit. The Music Festival and Gaming Tournament.
This weekend will be filled with a lot of cosplay and many popular cosplayers will be attending J1-Con. I’m excited to take pictures of everyone cosplaying, It’s amazing to see how their hard work pays off thru their cosplay.
Each con I go to cosplay is always my favorite part because there is no limit to their creativity, it’s just taken to the next level. I hope I can catch up with some of these cosplayers over the weekend and waiting to see who they choose to cosplay as this weekend is probably the most exciting for me since they have amazing photos on their sites. Luis Solivan, a.k.a the Latin Nerd Cosplayer is a 30-year-old man from Queens New York. Born and raised in New York City, Louie embraced much of what the city has to offer. A huge nerd in his own right. Louie expresses himself in many different ways through music, photography and his cosplay.
I got the opportunity to sit down and talk to him, here is what he had to say. Continue reading
As some of you may know, this past weekend, we attended AnimeNext, which is an Anime Convention held in Atlantic City, New Jersey. I would like to thank the wonderful staff at AnimeNext for allowing us to attend and for all the hard work they put into making this con a reality. None of this would be possible without you guys and gal. Now that we’ve gotten all the pleasantries out-of-the-way, let’s get down to business.
We had a blast last year at AnimeNEXT. The question is what am I looking forward to this year? The Masquerade and the All Off Concert. A few of the Special Guest (Johnny Yong Bosch and Kenji Kamiyama) Cosplay and panel selection.
Last year AnimeNEXT was so much fun that we’re excited about this weekend. If we haven’t said it already this weekend if AnimeNext and you should get tickets and a room for the weekend. AnimeNEXT is definitely a con to be visited in the tristate area because there is always so much to do and so many new people to meet, there’s never a dull moment going to a con that has so much to offer.
