The Flashbang panel was hosted by Rorie Still, the author behind Flashbang: Sci-Fi Stories That Will Blow Your Mind! It’s a compilation of six short stories, two poems, and three soundtracks. Ranging from comedy to somber tales. In each story, the characters are all searching for something and this is was what links them together. Continue reading
I was able to see Steve Conte at J1-Con but it was not what I expected. Steve Conte is an American musician, music producer, guitarist, songwriter, and the lead singer of his own band: Steve Conte NYC. I was hoping to see a concert and here some of his music but, it turned out to be a Q & A panel. It was a very intimate setting and I was able to learn a lot about him and his career. Continue reading
Niic (Pronounced “Nice”) The Singing Dog is exactly what his name says and I didn’t think it was going to be literal when I walked into the panel area. Kyle McCarthy is the voice behind the singing dog, such a good voice for the indie-pop music he creates. I’m happy I didn’t look up Niic prior to going into his performance, having that mystery about a performer you’ve haven’t heard of yet is always fun. After the performance I walked out a fan, Niic has a good voice and the vibrant green color of the suit is really pleasing to the eyes. I honestly enjoyed the show even more once he started singing covers of some classic 90s songs and the Teen Titans theme song. Continue reading
When at any anime convention the cosplay contest is always a must to check out and see what everyone participating has worked so hard to complete. Cosplayers are one of my favorite parts of every convention I go to, the completed work is always so amazing to see. Seeing people bring a character to life is the peak of seeing cosplayers do what they love. Continue reading
While I sat in the Dante Buford panel, I met Matthew Bordenave who is a Storyboard artist and up next was his panel. He was very funny and had a great stage presence. I really got to enjoy this panel and had a lot of fun. I was interested in learning about storyboarding because it is part of what makes an animation, this is one of the many jobs that brings an animation to life. With everyone’s hard work, everything comes together into the animation we see. I originally sat in this panel because I was curious about what the panel would be about, I was able to learn a lot about the behind-the-scenes in developing an animation. Continue reading
One of my highlights from J1-Con is attending Greg Houser’s voice-over workshop. Known for his work in One Piece, Tales of Vesperia and many other animated series, Greg brought his talent and experience to Atlantic City. Greg was funny, engaging and interesting to watch as he shared his background and interacted with panel participants.
Sys2matik Ovrl0ad is one of the bands I mentioned in my post about the J1-Con: Music Fest and I have to say they did not come to disappoint. Sys2matik Ovrl0ad had a great set to sit through and they were in pretty good spirits when it was such a small crowd that I wish more people would have come to enjoy the performance.
